The Youth of Emmanuel

 

Wow, what a very busy summer.  I can hardly believe that it is almost over.   June was filled will fundraisers and preparing for the SSP(Sierra Service Project) mission trip.    Of course the first two weeks of July was all SSP who has this motto: It is all about you - but it is not all about you.  What that means is that as we are living for others, making our lives all about them (it’s not all about you) – then we are changed thus it becomes all about us.  In other words, as we serve others, God changes us.  That certainly happened to everyone who went this year to SSP as we painted and roofed houses, laughed and connected with God.

                             

 

These first few weeks in August have been preparing for and going on the Bend Retreat with nine youth.   This event was filled with a lot of connecting with each other, with adventures in God’s creation and with who God is.   We explored caves and lava lands and wild rivers.   We also explored God as a person who has emotions, realizing that we can indeed relate to God in a very similar way that we do in all of our other relationships.   One youth said that for the first time she really has a desire to read her Bible.  Another said that he finally believes that God really has forgiven him. In their words, “It was a really amazing time!”

            Now we are preparing for the fall.  I am looking forward to seeing what God is going to do in and through these amazing youth.  Thank you for the opportunity to serve Jesus by serving them!
